Question: | ||||
What is the difference between a "Mod Chip" and a "Soft Mod"?
Answer: | ||||
A "Mod-Chip" is a hardware device that is soldered to the Wii hardware to allow the playback of back-up games. It can not be removed via software. A "Soft mod" this is where the systems software is manipulated and hacked to allow the playback of back-up games and homebrew software. CAUTION: The "Soft mod" can be completely removed by an official system software update.
Question: | ||||
Do all games work with the Mod Chip and Soft Mod?
Answer: | ||||
All 1:1 back-ups of original games work with Mod Chips, what this means is that games do not need to be patched to work. From time to time there will be titles that will not work with a Mod Chip in this case a flash upgradable Mod Chip can be updated free of charge. This is also the reason why a flash upgradable Mod Chip is advised. Most 1:1 back-ups of original games work with the "Soft mod", some require extra software to be installed on the Wii and other games need to be patched. |

Answer: | ||||

Question: | ||||
What is stealth mode, sleep mode or switch off mode, and why do I need it.
Answer: | ||||
Sleep mode is the mode that any descent mod-chip should go into after it has performed it's task. The reason for this is so that the mod-chip does not interfere with the normal operation of the console. Stealth mode means that the chip lies hidden from the console or any game until it is needed. Sleep mode and stealth mode go hand in hand and are mostly found on the same chip. Switch off mode is when the mod-chip can be completely deactivated by the user. The console will operate the same as before it had a mod-chip installed. Online gaming and installing of official Sony software might need the chip to be deactivated. If it's not the software won't install or the server might ban your console.
